Shoppers rave over Tesco’s new Sol de Janeiro dupes which are £19 cheaper & come in a range of scents

SOL de Janeiro has racked up a cult following in recent years, but the price tag can be off-putting.

Thankfully Tesco has launched a range of new products which many beauty lovers are comparing to the beauty brand - but for a fraction of the cost.

The supermarket has brought out a range of £4.75 body mists, which come in a number of different scents.

The best part is they are £19.25 cheaper than the £24 Sol de Janeiro version.

Beauty fans can snap up four new scents - Golden Hour, Sweet Haze, Summer Soleil and Island Breeze.

The Summer Soleil scent is said to smell like salted caramel and pistachio, similar to Sol de Janeiro’s Cheirosa 62 scent.

Meanwhile, the blue Island Breeze body mist is said to be scented with orange flower and cedarwood, the pink Sweet Haze spray has notes of vanilla and jasmine and Golden Hour has ylang-ylang with sweet rose & jasmine notes.

The products were spotted by The Dupe Queen, who posts under @newdupes and added the caption: “OMG.”

Many people were quick to comment on the dupe spot, with the video racking up 1,000 likes.

One person wrote: “Going to Tesco.”

Some shoppers pointed out that Primark and Lidl also have cheap versions of the popular body mist in stores.

According to the website, the Sol de Janeiro brand was “named after the ‘Sun of January,’ when the sun hits its highest point during Brazilian summers.”

Their star products are their skin-tightening Brazilian Bum Bum Cream (pronounced as 'boom boom cream') and their Perfume Mist.

Celebs such as Selena Gomez and Hillary Duff are counted among its loyal fanbase, and it has spiked in popularity on social media.

The company was founded by Heela Yang, who had previously worked as a director of marketing at Clinique and as a manager at Lancôme.

Korean-American Heela and her husband moved from New York City to Brazil in 2008, and she was inspired to make the product after falling in love with their inclusive beach culture.

In 2021, L'Occitane Group acquired a majority stake in Sol de Janeiro, and valued the company at US$450million (£350million).

However, their Bum Bum cream also comes with a pretty hefty price tag, currently retailing for £28.80 at Boots.

But it claims to have “skin-tightening” benefits.
