I wore tampons wrong for a year – it’s the most embarrassing story I could tell, I blame how my school taught me

EVERY woman has an awkward period story but one woman's takes the cake.

She revealed that she had been using tampons wrong for an entire year before a friend showed her the trick to it.

In her video, Chrystal Frost (@chrystalfrost) recounted the tale, which she said might be "the most embarrassing story anyone’s ever told on TikTok."

The TikToker offered some background information before she launched into the saga.

First, she explained to her audience that she grew up with divorced parents.

"I am a product of divorced parents, and Mother Nature came knocking at my door while I was at my dad’s house," Chrystal said.

She also shared that her educational background was very limited in certain areas.

"During my pre-pubescent years, I was going to a school that was teaching you that the earth was no more than 10,000 years old so you can bet I didn’t know there was a third hole," she joked.

Chrystal told her followers that she located a tampon when she got her first period and inserted it in what she assumed was the correct manner.

"So I put it in how I thought [I was supposed to] and just kind of went about my day," she said.

"Well, I continued this for an entire year until the summer after my freshman year."

Just before the first day of her sophomore year, Chrystal's friend made a revelation to her.

"My friend Jordin was over and she asked me if I wanted to go swimming. And I was like, ‘Well, I can’t go swimming because I’m on my period,'" she said.

After Jordin pointed out that she should still be able to swim with a tampon in, Chrystal began to list the things she couldn't do without having the sanitary product fall out.

As well as swimming, the teenager told her friend that every time she peed her tampon would come out.

When Jordin asked how exactly she was inserting her tampon, Chrystal replied, "Like a hotdog."

Once she had gotten over her initial confusion, Jordin showed Chrystal the correct way to use a tampon.

"She then explained to me that a tampon is like a cork, if your boat is sinking, you have to plug up the hole," Chrystal said.

"From there forward, I ditched the hotdog style and wore my tampon correctly."

She joked that the moral of the story is to "not let your kids live under a rock or they will end up like me."

"I don’t talk to Jordin anymore, but she actually changed the course of my life," Chrystal said.

Her followers shared their thoughts on the embarrassing story in the comments section.

"I knew someone who wore them with the entire cardboard applicator still attached, poor thing," wrote one viewer.

"To be fair, as soon as you said hotdog I thought 'Ya, that makes sense,'" another TikTok user said.

"This was LITERALLY me the first three months. I thought I was alone this entire time," commented a third person.
