At least 35 dead and 43 injured after car rams through crowd outside sports centre in China

AT least 35 people are dead and 43 are injured when a driver fuming from his divorce rammed a SUV into a crowd.

The horror smash happened in China - with Xi Jinping urging "all-out efforts" to treat those who survived.

The 62-year-old driver, with the surname Fan, reportedly then stabbed himself in the neck in an act of self-harm and went into a coma, Global Times reports.

Initial police reports said the man hit the people after he became dissatisfied with the division of property in a divorce.

The sports complex, located in the southern city of Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, was popular with joggers and walkers.

Video published on Chinese social media show bodies lying on the ground in pools of blood.

But these were quickly censored from from social media by Chinese authorities, a report claimed.

The tragedy comes just a day before the city was set to host a major airshow that features China's new J-35 stealth fighter.
