I built my kids their own rooms with rookie DIY skills & Shein bargains – we didn’t have to buy a bigger house either

WHILE bunk beds are a great space-saving idea for kids when they're little, as they get older and increasingly more independent, children are likely to want their own space.

But there's no need to worry if you can't afford to upsize or build an extension, as one clever mum has shared a genius way she divided her kids room into two using "rookie" DIY skills.

And she completed the look using bargain buys from the likes of Facebook Marketplace, Shein and eBay.

Erin McGill took to TikTok (@scottish_erin) and explains: "Had to split kids rooms instead of justing having a divider - they are 12 and 7."

The savvy homeowner proceeded to document her DIY journey and begins by saying how she "ripped everything out," before laying down fresh carpet herself.

She then says she called in a favour from a family friend who helped to put up a partition wall, while her partner was busy sorting out all of the electrics.

Gill, who has proved you can do anything if you put your mind to it, continues: "I learned to tape and fill."

Next, she posted a snap of her very impressive handiwork and quipped: "Not bad for a rookie!"

Clearly delighted with the finished results, she shows off her daughter's new space and enthuses: "Lovely girly room."

The room is big enough for a single bed, desk and is complete with fairy lights, wall art, and pretty pink cushions.

Next up, she reveals her son's new gaming den which has a bunk bed with storage underneath, blue LED lighting that runs around the ceiling and wall-mounted TV.

And for anyone looking to follow in Gill's DIY footsteps, then you're in luck, because she revealed all to Fabulous Digital.

"I got the building materials from a local supplier - it was around £130 in total and a friend done the wall," she explained.

"My partner who is an electrician done the electrical work, and the carpet was a roll end costing £100. and I laid that myself."

She went on to reveal that the beds were from Facebook Marketplace and cost just under £100 for both, while everything else was from either Shein or eBay.

"I learned to plaster and tape and fill the wall too, so it was all done by myself," Gill continued.

"The paint was old paint I had...I just mixed it together to make the colour.

"It cost around £450 in total for both rooms - I spread this over three months from January."
