Who is Adam Hills and what has he said about disabilities?
ADAM Hills is an Australian comedian who rose to prominence hosting Channel 4's The Last Leg.
The popular TV star is set to appear on a huge celebrity reality show in 2024.
Who is Adam Hills?
Adam Hills was born in Sydney, Australia on July 10, 1970.
The Aussie started doing stand-up at the tender age of 19 while studying journalism, after being inspired by Peter Sellers, Billy Connolly and the late great Robin Williams.
He was soon performing at the Sydney Comedy Store and in the early nineties he landed a radio breakfast spot while doing gigs.
By 1997 he was ready for his first international stand-up tour, which was the first time he came to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and made Brits chuckle.
Does Adam Hills have a physical disability?
Adam was born without a right foot and walks on a prosthesis.
During his gigs he's been known to pass it around as a source of humour.
His missing foot did not hold him back as a child, as his parents encouraged him to take part in gymnastics, football and cricket.
Adam has always been refreshingly candid about his disability, though he dislikes the term "disabled".
He said in 2012: "I don't think people who are considered disabled think about themselves as being disabled.
"Even when people talk about my disability, for a number of reasons I feel weird.
"There's nothing I can't do, so technically I don't think I am disabled."
He also has strong feelings about whether comedians should make jokes about disabled people, saying: "With comedy and disability people go, 'Ooh, where's the line?'.
"There is no line – if you're celebrating, then you won't say the wrong thing. As long as it comes from the place of going 'This is great'."
What is Adam Hills known for?
Adam was nominated for gongs at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2001, 2002 and 2003 — with his 2001 show also being nominated for a prestigious Perrier Award.
Back home, he began hosting Aussie music trivia show Spicks And Specks on TV in 2005.
Having hosted that for over five years, he then began appearing on UK panel shows like Mock The Week and Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
And after co-hosting US coverage of the Beijing Paralympics in 2008, Adam was asked to host a Channel 4 comedy chat show The Last Leg during the 2012 Paralympics in London.
The popularity of the show has meant it's been hanging around for several years and it now covers broad topics.
He co-hosts the show with comedian Josh Widdicombe and journalist Alex Brooker, and Hills also regularly appears on other Channel 4 shows too.
Who is Adam Hills' wife?
Adam is happily married to opera soprano singer Ali McGregor.
The pair wed in 2009.
