Major airport in Europe evacuated over bomb threat as flights cancelled and man arrested

A MAN has been arrested after Billund Airport received a warning about a bomb threat.

Denmark's second largest airport was evacuated immediately and will remain shut as police carry out investigations.

The South East Jutland Police confirmed that they received reports of a bomb threat at 10.30am on April 20.

All passengers and staff were evacuated from the airport at 11.40am.

It has since emerged that one man has been arrested in connection with the bomb threat.

It is currently unclear if anyone else was involved.

Police inspector Michael Weiss said: "We ask everyone not to drive towards the airport and to follow the police's instructions on the spot.

"The evacuation has proceeded calmly and as expected, with travellers following our instructions."

Flights have been cancelled, and it is currently unclear when normal procedures will be allowed to resume.

Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.

The South East Jutland Police are also investigating an incident in Nordmarksvej, Billund, where an ATM was blown up at 4.00am.
