Netflix confirms return of beloved comedy series as show boss pens heartfelt message to thrilled fans
NETFLIX has confirmed the return of one of its most popular comedy programmes from the last 12 months.
The streaming giant confirmed that it was partnering up with actress Michelle Buteau once again to help bring a second series of her beloved show to life.
Titled Survival of the Thickest, the programme was a mainstay in the top 10 of the Netflix most watched charts for some time.
Michelle led the show as funnywoman Mavis in the first eight-episode season where she was on the hunt for love after a shocking romantic break-up that forced her into rebuilding both her life and career on her own terms.
she appears alongside a slew of stars including Marouane Zotti who plays her handsome potential suitor Luca as well as featuring appearances from TV stars Michelle Visage and Garcelle Beauvais.
The show was adapted for Netflix based on a series of acclaimed essays written by Michelle based on her own life experiences and she previously described the show as her “love letter to New York. It’s my love letter to all the fatty baddies, oddie bodies, and beautiful-ass freaks that I’ve met growing up there".

Survival of the Thickest's return was confirmed when Michelle appeared on popular US daytime show Today with Hoda & Jenna.
Gushing about the news, she said to the show's hosts: "You guys, I'm getting a Season 2 of Survival of the Thickest. Oh, I'm so excited yes."
Recalling the moment she discovered she had been handed another edition, Michelle recalled: "Oh my goodness, I was in the middle of a pile of laundry, so I was really trying to match socks for five-year-olds.
"So, the feeling was very confusing. But, also, it was just a very calm overwhelming feeling of joy.
"But, I didn't jump up and down. I was just like, 'Yes. I did it. This is what I've been working towards.'"
Michelle previously opened up about why creating the show as so important for her to showcase black women supporting each other as well as succeeding in comedy.
She told Harper's Bazaar: "There's so many things that I wanted to tackle, [such as] Black women supporting each other. Oftentimes, especially in comedy, I know that I've experienced [this notion] that there's only one spot for us at the table, and that's not what it should be."
The actress then added: "And what's that saying? If you don't have a seat at the table, make your own table. B***h, I got a table and a buffet, so let's go."
The programme gained an 85% score amongst film critics as well as achieving an impressive 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
As well as this, the show was nominated for seven NAACP Awards with Michelle herself directly gaining four.
