I’m a cleaning pro – my fave products include a ‘traditional’ tool and a cheap buy that makes countertops sparkle
A CLEANING pro has shared his tips for a tip-top home.
He has listed his fave products that include a "traditional" tool.
And one of his cheap buys will make your countertops sparkle.
Michael Dimopoulos is a NYC-based Thumbtack House Cleaner and Founder of Lazy Susan’s Cleaning Service.
He's been around enough properties to know what works, and what doesn't.
There is a lot of choice on the market and it can be bewildering for homeowners.
But Michael has distilled his selection down to some must-haves.
He's seen products come and go and gadgets run out of steam.
He's learned to look past the promise and focus on the delivery.
Like many of his peers, he has seen a preference for environmentally friendly cleaning products over their more chemical-laden counterparts.
“We are also seeing more customers steering away from traditional types of bleach cleaning products," he said.
"These products are harsh and leave a strong potent smell which is overpowering,” he added.
Michael has done the hard work for you and compiled a list of products that has worked for him and could work for you too.
1. BONA MOP & FLOOR CLEANER, $30
Don't look any further if you are searching for a cleaner for wooden flooring.
“It’s the best for expensive wood flooring,” wrote Michael.
"The formula is gentle enough for older homes with original flooring and it won’t damage the finish."
2. TRADITIONAL WRING MOP, $34
The basic design of a mop has not changed in centuries and there's a reason for that - it works very well on multiple surfaces.
"For non-wood floors, an old-fashioned mop is best," said Michael.
“In large spaces with tiles or concrete, nothing does a job better than a real traditional wring mop with great detergent, hot water, and maybe vinegar," he added.
3. MICROFIBER CLOTHS, $20 (for 50)
The microfiber cloth is the doyenne of TikTok cleaning gurus everywhere.
Michael also swears by this humble cleaning tool.
"All of our cleaners swear by microfiber cloths. I use these on every surface,” he said.
4. MRS. MEYERS MULTI-SURFACE CLEANERS, $10
There are a multitude of cleaners on the market, but one comes to the attention of our cleaning professional.
“Mrs. Meyers provides a great result and is good for the environment, too,” wrote Michael.
5. PAPER TOWELS, $10
Career cleaners like to take an environmentally-friendly approach to their job, but sometimes something's got to give, and that's paper towels.
"Nothing beats paper towels for getting a shine on mirrors and glass, said Michael.
6. COCONUT OIL SPRAY, $7.50
It smells great, but is also effective as a cleaner according to our cleaning pro. It will bring your kitchen counters up sparkling.
“I use this as a natural furniture and leather polish,” wrote Michael.
"And it’s eco-friendly, too. Use it on your kitchen table, chairs, buffet, and other pieces."

7. VINEGAR & WATER, $6
This combination is not new but has experienced a resurgence in recent years as homeowners seek non-toxic solutions to their cleaning needs.
“Just don’t expect it to be as effective as a commercial cleanser for deep cleaning," he said.
