Top Iranian commander and deputy ‘killed in Israeli strike on Syria’ as Middle East warzone explodes amid Gaza conflict

AT LEAST four members of Iran's paramilitary force have been killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike in Damascus, Syria.

Two high-ranking IRGC commanders, including the head of their information unit, were among the killed, the state media reported.

An official said that the building struck was used by Revolutionary Guard officials, adding that the Israeli missiles destroyed the whole building and that 10 people were either killed or wounded in the attack.

Members of the Iran-backed group were reportedly holding a meeting when the airstrike hit.

Security forces have now been deployed around the destroyed four-story building.

A search for people trapped under the rubble is underway.

It comes after Israel reportedly killed senior Iranian general Sayyed Razi Mousavi on Christmas Day in Syria.

An Iranian official told state TV that he was working in the embassy in Damascus, Syria's capital and was struck by an Israeli missile while heading home from work.

And Tehran vowed to seek revenge, swearing that Israel "will certainly pay for this crime".

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian wrote on X/Twitter that “Tel Aviv faces a tough countdown", following his death.

The IDF has carried out hundreds of strikes on targets inside government-controlled parts of war-torn Syria in recent years.

Israel said it targets bases of Iran-allied militant groups, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Earlier this month, a strike said to be carried out by Israel killed top Hamas commander Saleh Arouri in Beirut.
