I bought an old violin for £70 and made thousands in my biggest ever triumph, reveals Bargain Hunt star Danny Sebastian
BARGAIN Hunt star Danny Sebastian has opened up about the time he made an eye-watering cash profit on an old violin he had brought.
The antiques expert first appeared on the BBC show in 2017 and officially became a presenter in 2022.
From market trader to antique dealer on Bargain Hunt, the self-taught expert has undoubtedly valued some of the show's most unique and exciting items.
During an interview with Express.co.uk, Danny opened up about his 20-year career as an antique expert and spoke on his most impressive prized possessions while filming.
While he admitted that he was "still waiting for that big hit", when asked what his most significant wins and losses were when finding items while filming, he revealed that a specific unexpected item made him quite a fortune.
Danny explained: "In the past, there have been hundreds of things that I have made hundreds of pounds on. I found a very nice violin that I didn't have a clue what it was but it was very decorative, and it was very well made.

"Anyway, I bought it for about £70, and I sold it for about £3,000, and that was a good hit."
He added: "I have seen a lot of precious items...Joe Colombo chairs, these are genuine items...Rolex watches, diamond rings, so I have had a lot of quality pass through my hands that is for sure.
"Unusual, well I have a chair which was in one of Alfred Hitchcock's films, I mean, that was quite unusual to come by."
"I have bought many items...I mean, nowadays, what with the mobile phone, it is very difficult to find a bargain or something that is going to make you a great deal of money."
The BBC presenter also detailed how he found great value in watches, picking up an Omega watch for £100 and selling it for £1,000.
Danny said: "I have done quite well and bought many items that I have made a grand profit on, but the big find I am still waiting for, to be honest."
When speaking on some of his losses, Danny disclosed that he once bought a decorative shelf for £80, expecting it to make a few hundred pounds, but it only made 20 quid.
He continued: "When it comes to Bargain Hunt, it all comes down to what auction you go to and who is at the auction [regarding] whether or not you make a great profit or loss, to be honest."
Away from Bargain Hunt, the 57-year-old has recently teamed up with Mars Wigley's UK Celebrations for their Christmas campaign.
Bargain Hunt is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
