Transfer news LIVE: Chelsea to let defender leave EXCLUSIVE, Eric Dier eyed by Premier League club, Phillips latest

  • Utd linked to Bayern duo

Manchester United are reportedly ready to launch moves for two Bayern Munich players.

United have sent scouts to watch Thomas Muller and Eric Maxim Choupo Moting as they look to bolster their frontline according to The Athletic.

  • United rivalling Real for Redondo

Manchester United and Real Madrid are tipped to battle it out for Argentina Under-20midfielder Federico Redondo.

TeamTalk suggest Liverpool too could be keen on the Argentinos Juniors star, 20.

United have had a problem filling the defensive midfield role, with Casemiro suffering from injuries and Sofyan Amrabat struggling since his summer loan arrival.

It's claimed Redondo might be available in the summer - for around £8million.

  • Ten Hag agent ruffles feathers

Donny van de Beek has been put out of his misery at Manchester United by joining Eintracht Frankfurt on loan.

Arriving from Ajax in a £40million deal in 2020 and on wages of £125,000 a week, Van de Beek is one of many recent disasters at Old Trafford.

Manager Erik ten Hag has been rightly hammered for his terrible moves in the transfer market, most notably winger Antony (£85.5m) midfielder Casemiro (£70m) and keeper Andre Onana (47.2m).

England midfielder Mason Mount (£60m) has been hit with injuries and £72m forward Rasmus Hojlund is a raw talent.

Even so, former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must still take a huge amount of blame for his own poor signings — and United are still paying the price. On top of Van de Beek, the arrivals of Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the return of Cristiano Ronaldo were all signed off by the Norwegian.

However, back at United and you would still rate Ten Hag’s record in the transfer market — considering the sums spent — worse than Solskjaer’s.

There has also been alarm over his agent, Kees Vos, and his growing involvement in transfers at the club. Vos’ Sports Entertainment Group represent Hojlund, who joined the agency a month before the United deal went through.

They also acted on behalf of United during negotiations to bring Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina. Equally, SunSport understands that SEG have ruffled the feathers of the agents of some of United’s younger players in the academy.

  • Blades in Diaz talks

Sheffield United are in talks to sign Villarreal winger Ben Brereton Diaz on loan until the end of the season.

The forward, 24, joined the Spanish club on a free transfer in the summer after the end of his Blackburn contract.

However, with just two league starts and no goals or assists the Chile international could make a return to England.

Talks have progressed quickly and Brereton Diaz may be in Sheffield this week to complete the move.

  • Red Devils show interest in Werner

Manchester United have contacted RB Leipzig over signing Timo Werner according to The Athletic.

The forward has not been in the first XI this season and Leipzig are open to the forward leaving the club.

United want to bolster their attacking options to have a second option to Rasmus Hojlund.

  • De Jong on Manchester United links

Frenkie de Jong has remained tight lipped on rumours linking him with Manchester United.

A reporter said to him: Your 5th season at Barcelona, your club, your city.

“But #mufc is still there, always interested. A new league could bring you new impulses, right?”

de Jong replied: “Possibly. But I am very satisfied at Barcelona. It’s always difficult to say. For now I feel good here.”

  • Sevilla target Utd striker

Sevilla are reportedly chasing Manchester United frontman Mateo Mejia.

The Colombian, 20, has notched three goals and five assists in the Premier League 2 this season.

But he's not come close to a first-team breakthrough in his four years at Old Trafford.

Spanish journalist Alvaro de Grado suggested Sevilla are tempted to move for Mejia this month.

His United deal ends in the summer and they could be tempted to offload him in January - if they agree a future sell-on clause.

  • Zubimendi back on the menu

Arsenal are tipped to come back in for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi this month.

Mikel Arteta is understood to be keen on recruiting an anchorman - plus a natural finisher.

And the Gunners' boss has long been an admirer of his fellow Spaniard.

Barcelona have also been linked with the 24-year-old this term.

And it's claimed Sociedad are braced for interest from big clubs in the current transfer window.

  • Toon set for windfall if Arsenal land Toney

Newcastle and Peterborough are set for huge windfalls if Arsenal sign Ivan Toney.

The Brentford striker has been strongly linked with a move to the Gunners this month.

Arsenal face competition from Chelsea and Tottenham, though, with Toney reportedly valued at £100million by the Bees.

A deal worth that amount would see both Newcastle and League One Peterborough pocket millions thanks to their sell-on clauses.

According to Sky Sports, Posh have a 30 per cent clause included in the £5million deal that took Toney to Brentford in 2020.

Meanwhile, Newcastle would receive 30 per cent of that amount after selling the forward to Peterborough two years earlier.

Those clauses would see Darren Ferguson's side receive £30million if Toney is sold for £100million, with the Magpies then cashing £9million from that figure.

Newcastle previously received £1.5million from Toney's 2018 move to Brentford.

  • Jadon in ‘advanced’ talks over loan exit

Jancho Sancho is in advanced talks to leave Manchester United on loan.

The winger – who joined in 2021 for £73million from Borussia Dortmund – has been frozen out of the squad since September.

Sancho’s exclusion followed a public row with Erik ten Hag, and after the winger refused to apologise he was banished from the side.

It leaves United looking to offload the England star, and according to Sky Sports in Germany, Dortmund are in talks to re-sign Sancho – while West ham have also been linked.

The two clubs are back in negotiations for a loan deal with Dortmund paying a fee and United helping to cover his £350,000-per-week wages.

Sancho is believed to be pushing for a return to Germany, where made 137 appearances with 50 goals.

And he could be at Dortmund’s training base as early as this week.

  • Chelsea prepared to let Chalobah go

Trevor Chalobah may yet leave Chelsea this month despite his injury woes.

The centre back - previously linked to Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund - has yet to play this season amid a nagging hamstring problem.

But Chalobah, 24, is nearing fitness - meaning there is still a chance a deal could be struck for him to get a fresh start away from Stamford Bridge.

However, he suffered a setback to his hamstring problem in October and is being cautious about pushing himself too hard to come back.

But with the transfer window open now there is hope he will be fit in time in order to get a move away - most likely a loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

  • Atalanta eye Brum's James

Atalanta have launched a swoop for Birmingham's Jordan James.

Reports in Italy claim the Serie A club have made an opening bid of £3.9million plus bonuses for the Wales midfielder.

SunSport previously revealed fellow Italian clubs Bologna and Lecce as well as Everton, Blackburn and Leicester have all been interested in rising star James, 19, who has impressed for club and country this season.

Highly-rated youngster James went to the World Cup last year with Robert Page's Wales squad as an extra man for the experience and then won his first cap in March.

James has made 24 Championship appearances for Birmingham this term as well as the eight-cap Welshman establishing himself at international level which have included excellent performances against Croatia and Turkey.

Atalanta, under the guidance of sporting director Lee Congerton, formerly of Leicester and Liverpool, have been scouting the British market for potential bargains and upcoming talent.

Now the Italians could take advantage of the uncertainty at Birmingham after manager Wayne Rooney was sacked on Tuesday.

  • Chelsea to hijack United's Antonio bid

EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea are eyeing a move for Benfica defender Antonio Silva after scouting the Manchester United defender for several weeks, write CIARAN WISEMAN and STEVE BRENNER.

The Blues watched the Portugal star, 20, during a3-0 win over Famalicao on Friday, having been scouted by the club for several weeks.

SunSport understand that the West London club see Silva as a potential new pillar in their defence.

Recent signings Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile have failed to establish themselves since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, veteran defender Thiago Silva will turn 40 next season and could still leave when his contract expires in the summer.

  • Spurs tipped to loan Reguilon out again

Manchester United have cut short Sergio Reguilon's loan.

Tottenham are now expected to find a new club for the former Real Madrid left-back in the January window.

The Spanard, 27, swiched temporarily to the Red Devils in the summer after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

But with Shaw back to fitness and Malacia nearing a return, United have decided to use the break clause in the loan deal.

Reguilon made 12 appearances for Erik ten Hag's side in all competitions this season, starting just four games in the Premier League.

  • Brum tipped to target Cooper

Birmingham City will approach Steve Cooper as their first port of call after sacking Wayne Rooney.

However, the Championship strugglers accept it is likely to be a short conversation and they face an uphill battle to convince the former Nottingham Forest boss to turn his back on a possible rapid return to the Premier League.

Blues CEO Garry Cook dusted himself down yesterday and started the recruiting process - again - 13 weeks after he pinned his hopes on Rooney.

A call to Welshman Cooper heads his 'To do list' after the Roo Revolution bombed spectacularly.

Ralph Hasenhuttl, Reims head coach Will Still, Jesse Marsch, Paul Heckingbottom and England Under-21 head coach Lee Carsley are also being considered.

  • Klopp recalls Beck due to left-back crisis

Liverpool have recalled Dundee loanee Owen Beck to help solve their left-back crisis.

Boss Jurgen Klopp is without first-choice Andy Robertson plus Kostas Tsimikas through injury.

Scotland captain Robertson is not expected to return this month following the dislocated shoulder he sustained against Spain in October.

Greece defender Tsimikas also faces a lengthy spell out after he suffered a broken collarbone in a freak collision in a 1-1 draw against Arsenal on December 23.

That has persuaded Liverpool boss Klopp to cut short Beck’s season-long loan north of the border.

Beck, 21, played 20 times and scored twice for the Scottish Premiership side this season and won a debut Wales call-up from Robert Page in October.

The Under-21 defender was on the bench for the friendly against Gibraltar in Wrexham but failed to come on.

A Dundee statement read: “Owen has been outstanding on and off the field. We would like to thank him for all he has given and wish him all the very best for the future. Owen will always be welcomed back in Dundee.”

  • Villa midfielder Az chance of move

Middlesbrough are ready to make a £2.5milion swoop for Aston Villa’s Finn Azaz.

The former Republic of Ireland under-21 midfielder has spent the first half of the season on loan at Boro's Championship rivals Plymouth.

Azaz, 23, has scored seven goals in 26 league appearances for Argyle, including a cracker in the 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough in November.

  • Varane vs Maguire stats as Frenchman heads out

Raphael Varane is poised to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer - but how do his stats compare with fellow Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire.

The Red Devils have rejected the chance to trigger a 12-month extension, meaning Varane is now free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs this month.

Since the start of 2021-22, the Frenchman has played 79 for United, compared to Maguire's 85.

He has registered a higher percentage of passing accuracy, more clearances, a higher rate of aerial success and a higher rate of duel success than his United counterpart.

Varane has also conceded fewer fouls and fewer goals than the England international at club level.

He has made NO errors leading to goals, while Maguire has made two.

However, the ex-Leicester hero stands out in some key areas.

The £80million man has made more tackles, more interceptions and has won possession more times than his French team-mate.

And most importantly, Maguire has a better win percentage with 59% compared to Varane's 53%.

  • Hammers linked with Dier

West Ham are reportedly keen on signing Eric Dier from Tottenham, who have already identified a new centre-back to replace him this week.

Ange Postecoglou's side are in advanced talks with Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin.

Spurs outcast Dier has started just one match in all competitions this season - a 2-1 defeat against Wolves in November.

Despite centre-back Mickey van de Ven out injured with a hamstring issue, 29-year-old Dier has still struggled for game time.

Postecoglou has chosen to rely on full-backs Emerson Royal and Ben Davies in a central role with the English defender still out of the picture.

According to ESPN, Dier has been told he can find a new club this month as his Tottenham contract is set to expire this summer.

And David Moyes' Hammers are among the clubs monitoring the defender alongside his old side Sporting Lisbon.

  • West San Utd?

Jadon Sancho is a January target for West Ham, according to reports.

The Manchester United winger has been strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford this month.

Sancho remains banished from the first-team squad, with the Red Devils looking to offload the outcast during the current window.

The 23-year-old has not played for United since August after his public falling out with Erik ten Hag.

With the transfer window now open again, multiple clubs are monitoring Sancho's situation, report the Daily Mail.

West Ham are said to be amongst those clubs, although David Moyes is reluctant to take him on loan.

Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and RB Leipzig have all been linked with Sancho in recent weeks.

  • 'Partey exit would hit title chances'

Ray Parlour claims keeping Thomas Partey would boost Arsenal's title hopes.

But the Gunners legend also suggested the Ghana anchorman should be offloaded if the only alternative was a big new deal.

Parlour told Danish magazine Tipsbladet: "If they won't give him the long-term contract he wants, it might be better to let him go.

He has been somewhat injury-prone, and Arsenal probably doesn't want to put the money on the table that his agent wants.

So, it might quickly prove better to let him go and get some money for him instead. It's all about the right balance."

"It's the same situation they faced with Granit Xhaka; if you lose him, you lose him, and let's move on.

"But in an ideal world, I believe a player like Partey should be at least part of the squad if Arsenal wants to win the title."

  • Spurs set to beat Arsenal and United to Radu

Tottenham are expected to fend off Arsenal and Manchester United to sign Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano Spurs have agreed personal terms to with the13-cap Romanian.

Dragusin, 21, joined Genoa permanently from Juventus in January 2023 following a successful loan spell.

  • 'Red Devils vs Chelsea for Todibo'

Chelsea are now competing alongside Manchester United to sign Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, a report claims.

But Premier League rivals Tottenham have pulled out of the race to sign the French centre-back.

Chelsea are desperate to recruit a new centre-back as Mauricio Pochettino is looking to bolster his defensive options amid the club's injury crisis.

Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah are both currently sidelined, while full-backs Reece JamesMarc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell are all out of action with injuries.

According to reporter Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have joined United in the race to sign 23-year-old Todibo.

But he also suggests a potential deal between Spurs and the Ligue 1 club for the player has "collapsed".

  • Pape Matar Sarr signs new Spurs deal

Spurs midfielder Pape Matar Sarr has signed a new long-term contract which will keep him at the club until 2030.

The midfielder has shone for Spurs this season and been an integral part of Ange Postecoglou's new look Tottenham.

He is set to jet off to the African Cup of Nations imminently to join up with the Senegal squad.

  • Tomiyasu close to new Arsenal deal

Takehiro Tomiyasu is close to penning a new long-term contract at Arsenal according to The Daily Mail.

The defender has been nursing a calf injury in recent months and is set to leave for the Asia Cup imminently.

But his versatility has proved vital to Mikel Arteta, with the Japanese international able to play anywhere across the defence.
