The major hiccup came an hour into the £100m opening ceremony.

Giant screens are showing the events further up the river to large crowds where cheers regularly rise up into the evening air.

However, the weather took a turn for the worse during the celebrations.

Spectators looked glum as they adorned transparent water-proof macs while sitting to watch the extravaganza on the river.

And matters were made worse when a big screen blacked out after rainwater seemingly caused the glitch.

The screen also has limited sound.

Viewers were also left complaining as the noise of the rain sounded out Lady Gaga's voice in the microphone.
