Stop buying overpriced hair oil & make your own for cheap – I use a dollar store buy & a 4-ingredient mix for long locks

"Stop buying overpriced hair growth oil. You can literally make your own at home for cheaper and customize it to your own hair's needs and it's so easy," said Chloe Chapdelaine (@chloe.chapdelaine).

She used her own long locks as proof that the four-ingredient potion actually worked - and her fans wanted to know how she had done it.

Chloe explained how the first essential item was a bottle as it made everything easier to apply.

She got her own affordable squeezy type at the dollar store.

For smaller batches, an old dropper bottle would also do the tresses growing trick.

"The first thing you're going to need is your carrier oil - it's basically the main oil aside from essential oils," explained Chloe.

While her healthy hair ingredient of choice was castor oil, she explained who might want to stay away from the product.

"Castor oil might be too heavy if you have fine or thin hair," she said.

Chloe instead advised researching some lighter oils.

Still, the castor oil seemed ideal for her own thicker strands so she stuck with it.

She even added some olive oil to the the mix to lighten everything up a bit.

It seemed as if trial and error was the way to go since everyone has their own hair type.

The best part was yet to come - the price.

Kate Blanc castor oil sells for just $9.99 on Amazon, and it seemed to have additional benefits as well.

The product is described as a growth supplement for hair, as well as brows, lashes, and even nails.

With smoothing properties, you can even add it to your skincare routine.

The popular product has over 100,000 glowing reviews.

"My scalp got noticeably darker and healthier. I still wash my hair every day and don’t have any issues with hair loss. I think this oil is great for people who are trying out hair oiling," wrote one enthused buyer.

"Great amazing product!" another customer heartily agreed.

It seemed that you could even use just one of the ingredients.

"Can you use olive oil instead of castor oil, if you don’t have it," asked a curious fan.

"Yes," Chloe replied.

She described what she used next.

"I've heard that rosemary is really good for growing your hair. I don't know the science behind it, but I thought why not give it a try," she said.

Chloe added 20 drops of the rosemary oil followed by another 10 drops of peppermint essential oil because she was a fan of the item's tingly sensation.

Lastly, she explained why decided to add tea tree to do the hair trick.

"I've used tea tree essential oil on my face before and I found it really helped me with my acne, my itchiness, and so I thought I'm sure it can't be bad if I add it to my hair."

She optimistically added eight drops of the oil to the mix in her bottle and shook it all up.

When it comes to the application process, Chloe just tips the bottle upside down and draws it in lines around her scalp.

She sections everything off to ensure she is covering most of her scalp - but it is important to find a balance.

"You don't want to soak your hair in it so that it's dripping down your face or anything like that. You just need enough to get it on your scalp," she explained.

She showed how she massaged the product in - sometimes even while flipping her hair upside down, in order to blood flow.

Chloe explained that she usually applies the long-lasting hair oil the day before wash day or even just an hour before so that she shampoos it out while she's shampooing her hair.

"I think hair oil is helpful because your scalp is where your hair is actually growing from and so we want to make sure that that area is nourished, is getting good blood flow, and that we're able to grow hair."

The strand savior was sticking by her DIY mix.

"I genuinely think it has helped my hair grow," she exclaimed.

Fans were grateful for the helpful tips.

"Thank you for the detailed explanation," exclaimed one encouraged follower.
