Live updates: Hezbollah targets Israeli air base to retaliate for strikes in Lebanon; Israel raids Al Jazeera bureau

Hezbollah launched dozens of missiles toward the David Ramat air base in northern Israel, near Haifa, early Sunday, which the militant group said was in retaliation for the wave of Israeli strikes in Lebanon over the past days.

Sirens sounded across northern Israel, while the Israel Defense Forces restricted gatherings in the region. The IDF said it detected approximately 85 projectiles from Lebanon in northern Israel, some of which were intercepted. Fire and rescue services worked to extinguish the fires, it added. IDF also intercepted projectiles into the Jezreel Valley and aerial targets launched from the direction of Iraq. Earlier on Saturday evening, IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said the military had struck “approximately 400 Hezbollah launchers, including thousands of rocket launchpads.” The United States urged its citizens to leave Lebanon through available commercial options.

Israeli forces raided the office of the Al Jazeera news network in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, and ordered it to close for 45 days, the channel reported early Sunday. The IDF did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
