I’ve had my car for three decades and driven it one MILLION miles – it’s had 288 tyres… but only broken down once

MOST drivers look to flick their car once the miles start climbing, but one man has held on to his car for as long as possible

Car YouTube channel TFLclassics has showcased one car that has over a million miles on the dashboard.

And the blue 1990 Honda Accord has racked up some impressive stats to get there, including 185 oil changes, 13 sets of brake pads, and 288 tyres.

The 2,2L engine, transmission, and air conditioning are all original. It's only broken down once when the fuel pump died.

Honda owns the car now, but it was owned by one of its technicians who used to drive it to the company's dealerships in the US Northeast.

He was dubbed by the Japanese car manufacturer 'Million Mile Joe' and a special technician coat was made for the man.

Joe, from Maine, bought the American-made car in 1996 with only 74k miles on it and took exquisite care of the whip.

His philosophy, according to the video, is that "if you keep up with the maintenance, oil changes, do things at the proper intervals then you should be able to keep the car going forever."

As of April, when the video was published, the car had done 1,003,440 miles, so many that the one numeral was not showing after it had rolled past 999,999.

"I'd imagine that a million miles on this accord is going to look a bit different than a million miles on some 1980s British brands," host Nathan says.

Honda has since done some paint and bodywork on the car as being in the US Northeast, the car is more liable to rust from the salty air.

"Mechanically, this car is mostly all original."

The interior of the car has seen some wear, with the seats faded and dirty. But, the dashboard is in great condition with no cracking on the leather.

"It's pretty cool that Honda is keeping that in their collection to showcase what they are capable of in terms of reliability and durability," Nathan says.

During the expose, the host found a cassette of Madonna's 1994 album Bedtime Stories in the player.

"Japanese cars from the 90s era were pure excellence. Whether it was a Honda, Toyota or Nissan you couldn’t go wrong. The Accord lead the way. Still the 1994 Acura Legend will always be my favorite. It was the car I dreamed about in those times," said one commenter on the video.
