Trump declares state of emergency along southern border to stop ‘all illegal immigrants’ minutes after being sworn in

DONALD Trump has made a solemn vow to tackle issues at America's southern border in a powerful inaugural address.

He declared the border crisis a "national emergency" and pledged to restore common sense in his second term after he was sworn in.

In the speech, Trump declared that "the golden age of America begins right now."

"America's decline is over," said the president.

He highlighted some of the first orders he plans to enact as president, including his latest promise to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.

"America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on Earth - inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world.

"A short time from now, we are going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America."

Like in many of his speeches, Trump emphasized his "America First" philosophy, which involves tightening the leash on foreign nations.

He called his second term a "revolution of common sense" as he vowed to tackle the US-Mexico border and stop illegal immigration.

The president said there is an "invasion of our country" and that, under his leadership, Mexican cartels would be considered foreign terrorist organizations.

He also praised the ceasefire deal that was just signed in Gaza between Israel and Hamas and was met with a standing ovation.

"The hostages in the Middle East are coming back home to their families," he told the elated crowd.

This demonstrated his plan to be a "peacemaker" and "unifier" to the world, he said in the speech.

Trump also declared a "national energy emergency" and highlighted his plan to "drill baby drill" on US soil.

He's stressed that America can be "energy independent" and hopes to source more oil by fracking.

"America will be a manufacturing nation once again, and we have something that no other manufacturing nation will ever have - the largest amount of oil and gas in any country on Earth," he said.

"And we are going to use it."

Trump mentioned the assassination attempt that saw him shot in the head during a rally and said that he was "saved by God to make America great again."

"We will not forget our country. We will not forget our Constitution. And we will not forget our God," he said.

Behind the scenes, his administration ended the use of the border app CBP One, which allowed nearly 1 million people to illegally enter America if they were eligible to work.

All appointments scheduled with the app have been canceled.
