‘It got worse and worse’ says Nick Knowles as he shows off painful injury on It Takes Two as Strictly future up in air

NICK Knowles joined Strictly's It Takes Two tonight as his future on the BBC dance competition hangs by a thread.

The Strictly contestant injured his arm on Sunday while changing a tyre on his car in the rain.

The Sun today revealed the DIY SOS host star will learn his fate in a meeting with bosses on Tuesday.

He appeared tonight on It Takes Two with pro partner Luba Mushtuk.

Nick, 62, explained: "It was my birthday.

"I had a big family birthday, I went to get my ten year old son to bring him back to the party, but we broke down on the motorway with a flat tyre.

"And it was raining and there were big lorries going past, so I tried to do it quickly and change the tyre, quickly, and as I took the tyre off, I basically damaged my bicep and damged my arm.

"I just want to say thank you to the two policemen from Taplow who turned up and helped me get the tyre back on."

Speaking about the pain, Nick said: "Then I went on, and I was like, 'OK, it's fine, I've hurt it but it's Ok.

"Then it got worse and worse and worse, and I actually missed my birthday party, because of being stuck on the motorway."

It Takes Two host Janette Manrara admitted: "We don't know if you're going to be able to dance on Saturday."

And Nick explained: "I'm hopeful (I'll dance) I'll find out more tomorrow.

"But I'm fully expecting to go into training and I'm really hopeful I'll be dancing on Saturday."

Nick opened the 20th series of Strictly with Luba on Saturday night.

He said he wasn't nervous ahead of their dance to We Built This City by Starship on his birthday.

He said: "It was amazing, you're very lucky I didn't take my shirt off and start running around the floor.

"But to be honest I couldn't because that shirt was actually stitched onto me!

"I had elastics going under and stitched on!"

Despite his enthusiasm, Nick was awarded a score of three points from judge Craig Revel Horwood and was at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Nick said: "Craig is Craig. You haven't really taken part in Strictly until you've had a bad score from Craig".

Luba added: "To be honest, I think he was so happy that the dance went well that he didn't even see the scores."

Luba also spoke about how Nick's injury may impact his dancing if he returns on Saturday.

They're due to take on an American Smooth to Blur's classic song Parklife.

Pointing at Nick's sling, Luba said: "Well first of all I thikn we'll sparkle this part.

"And we still have a perfect position on his right arm, and we've got to do perfect footwork. We might even do a lift on (his right) arm. So I think I'll work around it. I'll make it work."

Earlier today The Sun revealed pictures of Nick in a sling following the accident on Sunday.

He looked downcast as he was accompanied by girlfriend Katie Dadzie as he walked down the street with his injured arm.

He also updated his followers on instagram earlier today, informing them how the accident happened in his own words.
