I went to hospital with back pain and left with a baby – I had no idea I was pregnant, she’s the best surprise ever

A MUM has told how she had a scan for back pain then gave birth minutes later — despite not knowing she was pregnant.

Natasha Hardie, 30, was left stunned after daughter Ayla-Mae arrived when she had “no clue” she was expecting.

The drama came after she went to her GP with a mystery back ache and was given an emergency appointment at Crosshouse Hospital, near Kilmarnock.

The mum of three, from Dreghorn, Ayrshire, said: “Before the MRI scan they asked if I could be pregnant. I said no. I honestly did not think that was possible.

“I had no symptoms. I was still getting periods and had no bump.”

But immediately after the scan on March 1, Natasha had a sudden urge to use the toilet.

She said: “As soon as I got in, I thought, ‘Oh no.’

"I just pulled on the red cord to alert staff and they rushed in.

“They did a quick ultrasound scan and sure enough, there was a baby and it was coming.”

Just 44 seconds later Natasha gave birth to her 5lbs 13oz girl.

Hospital staff had to contact Natasha’s mum, Susan Colvin, to tell her the surprise news.

Natasha, also mum to Charlotte-Lillie, four, and 18-month-old Ivy-Rae, added: “The last thing my mum knew was I was going for an MRI scan — a few hours later I was coming home with a baby. But she’s the best surprise ever.

"Once we got over the initial shock, we were all delighted.”
