FINDING your dream family home can feel almost impossible, with sky high rent and mortgages being almost unobtainable.
After moving back in with her mum, Janeya thought she’d never have a place to call her own – until she moved into the garage.
Garages might not be at the top renovators’ wish lists, but the often overlooked space has been a lifeline for Janeya and her young daughter, Skylar.
Following the end of her relationship, the US woman had struggled to find a new place to call home and heal her emotional wounds.
With a toddler to raise though, Janeya was out of options and moved back in with her mum on what she thought would be temporary basis.
After seeing her daughter and granddaughter struggling, their kind-hearted relative took it upon herself to make home for her loved ones.

Whilst the family couldn’t afford to purchase a new home, Janeya’s mum set her sights on revamping the garage and turning it into a cosy apartment for the pair.
The space needed more than just a lick of paint though, with entire doors being removed, insulation panels being added and even walls installed.
As the weeks and months passed, the space slowly began to transform from an open plan garage to a working family home, complete with a cosy living space and bedroom.
Painted in a chic grey and white palette, the home is more like a trendy apartment than a temporary home – which left Janeya stunned by the results.
Even unfurnished, she was absolutely overjoyed by her new home and shared the incredible transformation on Tiktok.
In the caption, she gushed: “Moms are a blessing, loving this new journey & life for me and my daughter.”
Others were in awe of the new space too, with one commenter writing: “This is nice! People would rent this out for like 1300 a month these days.”
However, the home was far from complete.
Though it can take hundreds of pounds to make a house feel like a home, Janeya had a low cost way to style her home: Temu.
Having sourced bulkier furniture locally, the mum-of-one was eager to add girly touches to her home with pink scatter cushions and posters all sourced from the app.
Sticking with the pink theme, Janeya also installed stunning neon pink sign next to her DIY bar cart – with the LED light costing less than $12.
There were even more tech elements added, as she installed colourful LED strip lights around her TV to make the home feel even cosier – showing them off on Tiktok.
Though a design feature like this can cost thousands of dollars to install, Janeya picked up the kit for just $11 – yes, you read that right.

Proud of how she and her mum had transformed the tired space, she wrote: “You don’t have to spend millions to make your home comfortable, this for my girls on a budget.”
