In fact, you are better offer scouring the fruit and veg section as a cleaning whizz has revealed that potatoes are fantastic for removing rust.
Though it sounds too good to be true, you can use the humble spud as it contains high levels of an ingredient found in most household cleaners: oxalic.
When this chemical comes in contact with rust, it breaks down any build up and makes it easy to wipe away with a damp cloth.

You can even enhance this cleaning power, by sprinkling a little baking soda or salt on a freshly cut potato to cut through even more grime.
After just a few minutes of scrubbing, you should be able to wipe any rust with a sponge.
Cosplayer Demi even showed this hack in action and used her spuds to clean an old suit of amour, in a hilarious viral video.
