Inside Fern Britton’s beauty transformation at 66 – the diet that helped her shed 5 stone and a £16 product she loves
SHE’S been in TV and showbiz for 30 years - hosting the likes of This Morning and Ready Steak Cook - and now Fern Britton is back on our screens in Celebrity Big Brother.
Not only have fans expressed their annoyance at Fern’s ‘annoying habit’, but after the most savage nominations ever, the star will now face the next public vote in tonight’s eviction show.
It came after Fern was nominated by Love Island star Ekin-Su, as she admitted she felt the TV presenter turned best-selling author hadn't asked her many personal questions about her life.
But after watching the 66-year-old mother on our TV screens, one thing is for certain - she looks fabulous.
So just how has the This Morning star done it?
Fern has wowed us all with her amazing weight loss journey in recent years, after managing to lose an incredible five stone.

And if you’re wanting to know exactly how she did it - you’ve come to the right place, as here, Fabulous takes a close-up look at the star’s beauty transformation.
Under the knife
In 2008, it was reported by the Express that the TV star had a gastric band operation.
Speaking out about her weight loss to the Mail Online in 2011, Fern said she had the gastric band for "health reasons".
She explained: "My cholesterol was high. My knee joints were starting to hurt. I wasn't able to run.
"I was approaching 50 and I thought: 'Do you know what? I'm going to be different when I'm 50'."
After going under the knife, Fern said her health had got better and she was able to live a healthier lifestyle.
She added: "For me, it's worked. I've got good cholesterol now. I'm incredibly fit."
On her plate
But not only did Fern go down the surgery route to lose weight, she also watches her diet.
In her ex-husband, TV chef Phil Vickery, shared a glimpse at her diet plan.
He said: "Fern has cut right back on carbohydrates and eats a really healthy diet now with loads of vegetables and fruit.
"She likes my cooking. Family meals are old-fashioned favourites, like cottage pie or chicken with lots of veg and salad."
A study published in the National Library of Medicine found that obese adults who restricted their carb intake to less than 30 grams a day lost around 8.8 pounds more than those who restricted their fat intake.
Experts at Healthline also commented on its benefits and stated: "In general, reducing your carb intake can help you lose weight.
"Replacing carbs with protein or fat can help you feel more full and eat fewer overall calories, which in turn promotes weight loss.
"In addition, very-low-carb diets typically promote rapid weight loss in the first few weeks, due to a quick drop in water weight.
"This is because every gram of carbs holds approximately three grams of water in your body."
Made up
When it comes to make-up, Fern confessed that she doesn’t have a ‘signature make-up look’, but is a fan of eyeliner.
She told Good Housekeeping: “I like to wear eyeliner along my top and bottom lash line with a little flick – I love that sort of look and have done since seeing Twiggy in the film The Boyfriend – that and lots of mascara.
“If I’m going out to an event, I do my makeup myself – I enjoy it – and I'll attempt a full smoky eye.”
Fern also revealed that she’s a big fan of MAC's Pro Longwear Paint Pot, £17.50, for her eyes, and MAC’s Lipglass in Love Child, £16.50, for her lips.
The Celebrity Big Brother star explained that she’s ‘trying to embrace getting older’ and is becoming ‘increasingly comfortable’ in her own skin.
She added: “All my friends, all my peers, we’re settling into ageing together – we’re dealing with it.
"We’re all in our sixties and everyone is looking and feeling pretty damn good!”
But feeling good may have something to do with her skincare routine - as she confessed: “I very much believe in taking care of my skin.
"My mum was red hot on that so I’ve been doing it since I was about 15.”
Fern then shared the skincare products she can’t get enough of - as she admitted she’s a big fan of the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, from £27, which she described as ‘just gorgeous’.
Not only this, but she explained that if her skin is feeling ‘particularly dry’, she will use the Clarins Santal Treatment Oil, £37, at night.
Also at night, the star confessed to using Dior Nail Glow, £21, which she claimed “makes my nails look cleaner, brighter and generally just better.”
Feeling fresh
Fern explained that when she was working on television every day, she would have fortnightly facials.
However, now that the mother lives in Cornwall, she explained that she rarely goes for facials, as the air is so clean and fresh on her skin.
She shared: “Where I live in Cornwall, the air is so clean that I’ve hardly noticed any changes in my skin – it’s been good.
“Otherwise, as far as treatments go, a pedicure once a week would be my idea of heaven!
“But in lieu of that I moisturise my feet every night before bed.”
Get moving
Living in Cornwall, Fern explained that she loves to get out and about, and goes on a long walk every day.
To keep her slender figure, she revealed: “I’ve always done a lot of exercise and been pretty fit.
“I used to love going to the gym and going swimming but at the moment I’ve got quite bad arthritis in my shoulder and knee, so instead I’ve got a three mile walk that I like to do almost every day.
“I always feel that if I can get fresh air in me, it’s doing me good. I also do yoga three times a week.
"I love yin yoga. It involves getting into certain poses and holding them for three to four minutes.
“You have to think through the pain, breathe into the pain, and eventually you relax. By the end I feel blissed out!
