My laundry trick costs cents – it will speed up drying time, get rid of static cling & use less energy to save on bills
A CLEANING expert has revealed how she uses a common kitchen item to improve her tumble dryer.
The tip can help you save money in the long run because you'll have a shorter drying time.
TikToker Lynsey Crombe (@lynsey_queenofclean) shared her hack for preventing static while you dry your clothes.
All you have to do is "chuck in a few foil balls" when you start the load.
In a video, Lynsey showed herself pulling out a sheet of aluminum foil, squishing it into a ball, and then throwing it into the machine.
"Static is caused by clothes rubbing against each other," Lynsey explained in the caption.
"When they do, they exchange electrons, with one item becoming positively charged while the other is negatively charged," she added.
"Negatively charged garments will stick to the positively charged items," she said.
Adding the foil balls discharges the static and keeps the clothes separated, as well.
There are dual benefits to using the foil ball method. It can save you money by taking less time to dry your clothes.
"This can help to speed up drying time so that you use less energy which is great for your bills too," Lynsey said.
"You can keep using the balls too," she finished.
CNET confirmed that the method works, and they added a few more tips.
"Each ball should be between two and three inches," they wrote. "Make a few of these and toss them in the dryer with your wet clothes."
It's also cost-efficient.
It costs about 15 cents to make three aluminum foil dryer balls, CNET wrote.
While you could use dryer sheets to reduce static, aluminum foil is a cheap and all-natural alternative, the publication said.
