Littler reached the final by edging past Rob Cross and Luke Humphries, both by narrow 6-5 scorelines.

Van Gerwen, meanwhile, overcame Nathan Aspinall and Michael Smith 6-4 and 6-4.

Littler, 17, went into the night eyeing a record-equalling third win on the bounce - also achieved by Humphries earlier this season.

But he was thwarted by Van Gerwen, with the Dutchman returning to form to beat him 6-3.

"The last few weeks has not been great for me but to come back with a win tonight feels good to me.

"I'm going to win more than four. I had to go deep tonight.

"To win night's like this is not always about who's playing well. It's about who can handle the nerves.
