The Cadbury classic has been a familiar sight each year for Easter since 1967.

If you're eyeing up a bag, make sure you're not paying more than you need to.

Prices often vary as shops vie for customers by putting seasonal items on offer in the run up to the day, which falls on April 20 this year.

Here we round up the best deals for Cadbury mini eggs this week.

Though remember this is just a snapshot, and prices can vary from one day to the next, so always compare prices to find the best deal. You can find more on how to do that below.

If you're buying online remember to factor in delivery costs too.

Lidl has yet to reveal its Easter range of chocolates and also note that in store prices can be different to online.

Asda

Over at Asda you'll pay £1.64 for an 80g bag of mini eggs.

The chocs are currently on Rollback, which means the price has been reduced as part of the supermarket's massive new price cut initiative.

The previous price was £1.85.

A 270g bag will set you back £4.48 (down from £4.50 under Rollback) and a 308g bag is £4.98.

Despite the price drop, the larger bag works out better value overall at £1.62 per 100g, compared to £1.66 for the smaller one.

Asda is the cheapest place you'll find the 308g bag, but other sizes are cheaper elsewhere.

Tesco

The UK's biggest supermarket is stocking mini eggs for £1.85 this year.

But you can get them for £1.65 if you have a Tesco Clubcard, which is free to sign up to.

This offer is available for deliveries until May 12, though in store availability may vary.

To see when a Clubcard deal is set to end in store you should check the hidden codes on labels - watch coupon king Jordon Cos show you how to find it.

Meanwhile you'll find the 270g bag for £4.85 and the 308g for £5.25 and you won't need a Clubcard for either.

Tesco is also selling a whopping 1kg bag for £14. It's a hefty price tag but actually works out the cheapest based on the unit price.

It works out as £1.40 per 100g, compared to £1.70 (308g), £1.80 (270g) and £2.06 (80g) even with the Clubcard price applied.

This giant bag is also the cheapest you'll find the chocs at any supermarket for the 1kg bag, and for any size when looking at the unit price.

What are unit prices and how to do they help shoppers?

Unit prices make it easier for shoppers to compare similar items of different sizes, explains consumer editor Lynsey Barber.

You should be able to see the product's unit price where its price tag is shown - it may be in small print.

It displays the cost of different products by weight, or volume.

It helps you easily compare the costs of different products, regardless of their respective sizes.

Compare this with the unit price of a similar item - for example, the cost per 100ml or two different types of cola - and choose the item with the lowest unit cost.

For example, if a pack of 15 330ml cans of Coca-Cola Zero is priced at £7.90, then the unit price is shown as 16p per 100ml.

Shoppers can compare this to a 2litre bottle of Coca-Cola Zero which is priced at £1.85, as it is also labelled as 9p per 100ml.

Major supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury's also show these unit prices on loyalty cards.

Stores must show unit pricing under legislation known as the Price Marking Order 2004.

With this in mind, paying close attention to the unit prices of the staples in your shopping trolley could save you a fortune in the long term.

Aldi

Currently Aldi is selling the standard 80g bag of Cadbury mini eggs for £1.49.

You'll only be able to pick these up in stores though, as Aldi doesn't sell online.

We couldn't see the bargain shop selling bigger sizes of the treat right now.

It's the joint cheapest you'll find the 80g bag, along with Home Bargains.

Aldi is also selling its own version of the chocs under its Dairyfine brand for £1.25 for 80g.

Sainsbury's - £1.85

Sainsbury's is selling the 80g bag of Cadbury mini eggs for £1.85.

A 308g bag is £6.50 which is the largest size we found available online at the supermarket.

Once again the larger bag works out better value on unit price (£2.11 per 100g compared to £2.31), but none are the cheapest you'll find them.

Sainsbury's does sell it's own version though. Its 80g bag of speckled mini eggs are £1.50.

Morrisons

At Morrisons shoppers can bag the 80g Cadbury eggs for £1.85.

A 270g pack is selling for £4.85 and a 308g bag is £5.25. The supermarket is also selling the giant 1kg for £15.

The supermarket is not the cheapest for any sizes of the treat.

Morrisons own-brand eggs, also 80g, will set you back £1.25.

Iceland

Iceland may be better known for its frozen food but you'll find many aisles of cupboard essentials, fresh fruit and veg and even Easter eggs.

An 80g bag of Cadbury mini eggs is £1.85 at the supermarket, which also owns the Food Warehouse

It is also selling the treats for £4.85 for a 270g bag, £5.50 for the 308g size and £15 for the 1kg giant sharing bag.

Once again the larger bag works out the better value, based on unit price (£1.50 per 100g).

But you'll find all these sizes for cheaper at other supermarkets.

Waitrose

At Waitrose and 80g bag of Cadbury mini eggs is £1.85.

The posh shop also has the 270g bags for £4.85.

Neither of these are the cheapest you can get the chocs.

Ocado

At Ocado, the online-only supermarket, you can pick up a bag of 80g mini eggs for £1.65.

It's also selling the 270g packs for £4.85 and has an offer that makes them cheaper.

How to compare prices to get the best deal

JUST because something is on offer, or is part of a sale, it doesn't mean it's always a good deal.

There are plenty of comparison websites out there that'll check prices for you - so don't be left paying more than you have to.

Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers.

Here are some that we recommend:

  • Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results.
  • Price Spy logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock.
  • Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers. All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one.
  • CamelCamelCamel only works on goods being sold on Amazon. To use it, type in the URL of the product you want to check the price of.

On deal you can buy two for £8.50, working out as £4.25 each and making it the cheapest you can buy this size.

But as it's online-only, you won't be able to buy them in a shop. You'll also need to factor in any delivery costs on top.

It also sells an M&S version of the chocs costing £2 for a 90g bag.

B&M

B&M is selling the 80g chocs for £1.50 and a 270g family pack for £4.75.

It's the second cheapest place you'll find the 80g bags, after Aldi.

You'll have to head to store to get these as B&M doesn't sell online.

This is also the only size available at B&M, according to its website, though it's worth checking in store as stock can vary.

Poundland

At Poundland the 80g bag is £1.85. among the priciest you'll find for the smallest size.

It's the same price at Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Iceland, and Waitrose.

This is the only size mini eggs Poundland sells, according to its website, but it's worth checking in stores as stock can vary.

Home Bargains

At Home Bargains you can pick up two 80g bags for £2.98 online.

This works out as £1.49 each - the joint cheapest for this size alongside Aldi.

According to the bargain store's website, this is the only size available, but stock in store could vary.

Where is it cheapest to buy Cadbury mini eggs this week?

Overall, Aldi and Home Bargains are selling the treats at the cheapest price: £1.49 for an 80g bag, although at Home Bargains you'll have to buy two to get the low price.

You'll find the 270g bags cheapest at Ocado, although you'll have to buy two, and this doesn't include delivery costs.

Asda is the cheapest supermarket for 308g bags of the chocolates. You'll pay £4.98 currently.

But the best value for money is the giant 1kg of mini eggs which work out as £1.40 per 100g.

You'll need to fork out £14 for this sharing bag at Tesco though.
