Jamie Vardy signs new Leicester contract ahead of Premier League campaign in transfer blow to Wrexham

JAMIE VARDY will be terrorising Premier League defences next season - at the ripe old age of 38!

Leicester City have confirmed the veteran striker has signed a new one-year-deal, subject to Premier League approval, which will take him beyond his 38th birthday in January.

The news will come as a huge boost to Foxes fans who lapped up the striker's contribution to their Championship winning season and promotion.

Vardy rolled back the years to hit 20 goals in 37 appearances, including four in Leicester's final four Championship games as they clinched promotion in April.

However Wrexham fans will be gutted that the striking sensation won't be joining them after Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were linked with an audacious move for the former England striker.

Vardy was a £1million bargain buy when Leicester snapped him up from Fleetwood Town in July 2012.

He is the Foxes' third leading goalscorer of all time with 190 goals in 464 appearances for the club.

Vardy will now look to break the 200 barrier in the Prem next season - his 13th campaign with the Foxes.

Speaking to club media after extending his Leicester stay, Vardy said; "I’m absolutely delighted.

"Obviously, the target at the start of last season was to get back into the Premier League and to do it the way we did and win the league, everyone was over the moon. It was a great season.
