Brazil hot-air balloon crash kills at least eight

At least eight people have died after a hot-air balloon with an estimated 22 people on board crashed in Brazil’s southern state of Santa Catarina, the state governor said.

Jorginho Mello said in a post on X on Saturday morning that the local community was “shocked” by the incident, which he said happened in Praia Grande. Two people were confirmed to have survived.

“The teams continue to search for the others,” the governor said.
