Kate bravely agreed to go on camera and let her family's struggles with the effects of the illness be filmed for a documentary series.

Sadly after getting treatment at a specialist facility in Mexico this December, Derek suffered from a heart attack and died days later.

A stricken Kate made a desperate 12 hour flight home with him, and then rushed him to a London hospital.

She spent Christmas with her hubby and the kids in the ward before he passed away, aged 56.

Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story will be broadcast on ITV starting Tuesday, March 26.

Previous documentaries Finding Derek and Caring for Derek looked at his road to recovery after gaining consciousness from his induced coma.

Now the Good Morning Britain host is expected to pay a tribute to him after his death.

A whole host of people from the British world of politics and showbusiness turned up for his funeral.

Guests including Tony Blair, Elton John, Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, Keir Starmer and Myleene Klass all sang Lord of the Dance.

Lyrics to the emotional tune include: "Turn me loose from your hands / Let me fly to distant lands / Over green fields, trees and mountains / Flowers and forest fountains / Home along the lanes of the skyway."

A source said: "It was a heart-wrenching day, but an incredible send-off for a wonderful man.

"Kate, Darcey and Billy were so, so strong throughout, and would have been hugely touched by the incredible turn-out; it was testament to Derek's popularity in every area of his life.

"Kate wore Derek's watch so that she could carry a little piece of him on the day, and everyone was, of course, so kind to her. Quite simply, the public outpouring of support has kept her going of late."
