It is not uncommon for drivers to forget to lock their doors before going for a drive.

Cruising at high speeds with a door unlocked can be dangerous for the safety of the driver as well as all the passengers inside a car.

An online motor expert, however, has revealed a great hack that can save your life in such situations.

The tip was shared by car guru atutos_official in a clip on TikTok.

The car lock button on the driver's door is multifunctional - and can be used to turn on the auto-lock feature in a car.

But motorists should note that it takes 10 seconds to activate.

The expert said in the video: "After powering up the car, hold the lock button for 10 seconds to activate the auto-lock feature."

The feature automatically locks all the doors while travelling more than six miles per hour, even if the driver forgets to lock the car in the first place.

It comes after another car expert revealed a secret hidden button - and knowing it could save your life if you ever need to escape a car.

It's a perfect hack for if you're ever stuck inside your car and unable to open the passenger doors or windows.

The hack was posted to TikTok by chequanxiaoqiao as part of a series of tips that many people don't know.

And TikToker Tong showed viewers how to apply the electronic parking brake while driving.

If your brake pedal stops working, simply pull up and hold the switch until you come to a halt.

And lastly, an expert revealed a simple spring cleaning hack that can raise the value of your motor by thousands.

John Hood, from sales platform Motorpoint, emphasised that "first impressions count" when trying to attract buyers for your vehicle.

He urged Brits to keep their motors clean and tidy, and even invest in a professional valet service when they intend to sell up.

Motorpoint's analysis has suggested that cleaner cars are much more likely to be bought and will fetch a higher sum when the time comes.

John said: "First impressions really do count, so it’s no surprise that a dirty or messy vehicle can have an impact on its value.

"You’re best off cleaning the entire car, inside and out, before looking to sell as this could make a difference to your valuation price.

"[But] if you think you could do a good job yourself, there’s no need to pay for a professional clean as this could cost you up to £150."
