I’m literally freaking out over a surprise hiding in my Christmas tree – I promise it wasn’t there when I decorated

CHRISTMAS is a time for opening up your home to friends and family.

However, one woman was visited by an unexpected festive guest, and it wasn't one of her loved ones.

In her video, Brett (@brettbratt359) showed her followers the surprise she found in her Christmas tree.

"I had just got home from work, I was sitting on my couch, working on my computer, and I heard [what sounded] like a sneeze," the TikToker said.

She explained that since she has three dogs and a cat she figured it was one of them.

"I started looking to see if my cat was stuck behind the couch or something but as I was looking around I saw this really big long-looking rat tail," Brett said.

After spotting a "giant gray breathing ball of fur" in her tree, she realized there was a possum in her tree.

"I am literally freaking out right now, I have no idea how this possum got in my house and up into my tree," Brett said as she filmed the wild animal hiding among the branches.

"I’m trying to get him out and he will not let me. I don’t know what to do, I don’t know how it got in here, I don’t leave my doors open," she said.

In a follow-up video, she revealed how she handled the surprising situation.

"The first thing I did was call my boyfriend so he could witness it," Brett explained.

"His friends just proceeded to laugh at me and think it was the funniest thing ever but I was kind of freaking out," she said.

After putting on rubber gloves, she was able to remove the animal from the tree but it hid under her couch.

"I moved the couch with all my force and just went for it and tackled him like an NFL player," Brett said.

She calmed down the animal and released it outside since it was nighttime.

Brett explained that her tree was artificial and that she stored it in her garage.

However, when she decorated the tree 10 days previously no wild animals were lurking in it so she wasn't sure how it got into her home.

Her followers took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the situation.

"And a possum in a pear tree!” joked one TikTok user.

"I was admiring your tree and the possum scared me before you even said it was there," said another viewer.

"He's staring like you are the intruder and he pays the bills," wrote a third person.
