He cuts in inside the box and looks to give the keeper the eyes and reverse it into the near post. The keeper reads it though and tips it round his near post for a France corner.

The news of Slovakia upsetting Belgium will have sharpened the focus of the France squad here in Dusseldorf.

Les Bleus are of course expected to walk Group D but Ralf Rangnick's Austria pose a stern test in the opener.

The former Manchester United boss outlined their intentions to press France and suffocate Kylian Mbappe.

France's build-up has been dominated by politics, with players speaking out against the rise of the far-right back home.

Didier Deschamps, the manager, has no issue with them doing just that but will be delighted if a positive performance can get the focus back on the football.

It is a big night for William Saliba, given a shot starting at the back and needing to prove a point.

It will also be fascinating to see how N'Golo Kante, whose last tournament appearance for France was their round of 16 defeat to Switzerland three years ago, gets on now he has been brought back in.

Austrian history

Captain Marcel Sabitzer is making his eighth appearance in a European Championship finals.

That's the most of any Austrian player in their history.

Nevertheless...

He's still the frontrunner in the race for the top scorer in this competition.
