Seaside cafe combining two traditional dishes in bizarre move delighting punters
A SEASIDE cafe has combined fish and chips with posh afternoon tea.
Lois Kirtlan merged the two traditional dishes despite pals warning her it would never work.
Punters get fish and chips on the bottom tier, mushy peas and bread in the middle, with scones and cream on top — and even a bottle of fizz.
Mum-of-two Lois, 47, has run the Hetty and Betty restaurant in Whitby, North Yorkshire, since 2018 with the help of education consultant husband David, 47.
She said: “It’s quirky and different and the customers love it.”
“I always wanted to do afternoon tea by the sea but everyone told me people won’t want afternoon tea by the sea, they will want fish and chips by the sea.

“My stubbornness kicked in and I thought well, I will do fish and chips but will serve it as afternoon tea.
"It’s a two course meal which people often can’t finish it so we give them a box to take the leftovers home."
She expects it to be popular on National Fish and Chip Day on Thursday.
The unique meal costs £36 and £56 with fizz.
