Horror as gunman is shot dead by cops at train station in broad daylight

A MAN has been shot dead by cops at a busy railway station in broad daylight.

Cops fired at the man after reports of a man carrying a gun at Milton Keynes train station this afternoon.

Cops said armed officers "responded and challenged" the man before he was fatally shot down.

Thames Valley Police and the British Transport police both swarmed the busy commuter train station after reports of a firearm in the area.

Roads were closed off and a police helicopter was overheard by those locally.

There was a big police presence just before 1pm today before passersby heard a gunshot, according to the Citizen newspaper.

"Life-saving actions" were taken but the man died from his injuries at the scene at Elder Gate.

Thames Valley Police said in a statement: "Officers from Thames Valley Police and British Transport Police were called to reports of a man carrying a firearm at Milton Keynes railway station, Elder Gate, Milton Keynes, at 12.55pm today.

"Armed officers from Thames Valley Police responded and challenged the man, before shots were fired by police.

"Life-saving actions were immediately taken at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead at 1.44pm.

"There is not believed to be any further risk to the public at this time.
"We will provide more details as soon as we are able to."
