Woman reveals how she grew thicker lashes when she was a ‘broke college kid’ – her DIY oil contains only 2 ingredients
A BEAUTY enthusiast has revealed the DIY treatment that naturally stimulated the growth of her eyelashes.
She said using two budget-friendly products nightly thickened her lashes.
She took to Reddit’s Indian Skincare Addicts forum in response to a user asking people to share their opinions on castor oil for eyebrow growth.
BASIC BEAUTY
Posting under the handle Overthinking_is_easy, she raved about an alternative to the popular vegetable oil.
“Not castor oil but I tried this when I was a broke college kid and wanted thicker eyelashes,” she said.
“Squeeze out a vitamin E capsule and add an equal amount of olive oil.
“Store this in a suitable container. Apply a little at bedtime.
“My eyelashes grew thicker so hopefully your eyebrows should too.”
Vitamin E capsules cost $5.12 and olive oil is $6.12 at Walmart.
Delighted shoppers have highly rated both of the ingredients.
The Redditor shared a tip for applying the home remedy without irritating the eyes.
“I applied a little, just enough to coat the hair,” she said.
“Didn't feel any irritation. Better still, use a cleaned mascara bottle.
“The brush won't hold much oil then.”
A pack of disposable mascara wands is $3.98 at Walmart.
Many people up-voted the beauty hack and began to debate if the treatment would also work on eyebrows.
TRIED AND TESTED
According to Dr. Jack Peterson, vitamin E can be topically applied to lashes or taken as an oral supplement.
The antioxidant has been proven to reduce oxidative stress that contributes to hair loss.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she recommended a "naturally anti-inflammatory diet" rich in antioxidants for regrowing brows.
- Orange and yellow foods for beta-carotene
- Pumpkin seeds for zinc and amino acids
- Bananas and mushrooms for biotin
- Cucumber or Horsetail and nettle herbs for silica
- Dark berries, raw cacao, and green tea for polyphenols
He claims research on rats shows the compound oleuropein in olive oil may also improve the growth of lashes.
Dr. Peterson recommends using a cotton swab to apply a small amount of olive oil to lashes then leaving it to sit for up to 10 minutes before rising.
The hack comes after Hoda Kiani, founder of LoveLash, shared affordable solutions for growing eyelashes with The U.S. Sun.
