I’m a dog trainer – the breed I DON’T recommend, they’re anxious and have loads of behaviour problems

FROM health to lifestyle, there are a whole host of different factors you need to consider if you're looking to welcome a four-legged friend into your home.

But if you can't decide on the dog breed that's best for you, then you may want to listen up...because dog behaviourist Will Atherton has revealed the one that he'd never recommend.

In a clip shared to TikTok, he explains that there's not a breed that he hates, but points out that every breed has it's advantages and disadvantages.

The dog whizz then proceeds to discuss one pooch in particular...the Whippet.

He explains that there's one thing in particular he's not a fan of and that's the fact they tend to be "incredibly oversensitive."

And while Will says to make no mistake that they are "lovely, sweetheart dogs," he goes on to say how he's currently got one at his training centre for "problem behaviours" stemming from that exact issue.

He urges: "So you have to make sure if you get one, then you know how to bring confidence out in them so that they don't become overly nervous, overly anxious, or develop things like separation anxiety."

It wasn't long before the post went viral, garnering thousands of views and several comments from pet owners up and down the country - with very mixed opinions.

"Couldn't imagine having any other dog than a Whippet, mine is a bit sensitive and can't be left alone, which he isn't on the farm anyway," wrote one.

A second penned: "I’ve got a Kelpie/Whippet, lucky I’ve got the sweetest whippet and the confidence of the Kelpie."

A third commented: "My whippet has some issues!!!

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: "I have a whippet crossed with greyhound and she’s scared of everything, like if you drop something she’s out the room (I love her to bits though)."

I'm a vet and there are 5 dog breeds I'd never own - including the pooch that only lives up to around 7 years

And another chimed in: "My Italian greyhound was a sweetheart.

"Terrible, terrible recall and never fully worked out being toilet training.

RIP to him but won’t be getting that breed again."

Will, who has worked tirelessly hard to save thousands of pooches from shelters and the euthanasia table, previously told Fabulous there's one breed busy families always regret bringing into their homes.

And it's not good news if you're a fan of the Border Collie…

“They are able and capable of unbelievable feats of training with their working capacity of herding sheep,” Will told Fabulous.

“They are an absolute joy to watch.

“However, some people hear that they’re the smartest dog in the world and the most trainable dog in the world.

“And what they hear is, ‘easy to train’ as opposed to, ‘most trainable’.”

According to Will, Border Collies also have high energy levels and as a result, need more physical and mental stimulation than people realise.

He warns that without this, they can easily become bored and develop behavioural problems - including excessive barking, digging or destructive chewing.
