A MINDBOGGLING brainteaser inspired by the desert has become the latest viral challenge sweeping social media.

Instagram user @centraltucson.co, who boasts over 4,600 followers, shared the optical illusion.

“Is it just us, or do these things keep getting harder… Can you find the hidden cat-cus?” they captioned the post.

They used the hashtags #hiddencats and #cactusflowers to make the image go viral.

The challenge has proven almost impossible for anyone who isn’t a true animal lover.

The plants seem to be all different sizes and shapes, which makes it difficult to know where to focus on searching.

The bright colors stand out but somehow the mischievous cat manages to perfectly hide in plain sight.
