Man in court charged following US embassy bomb hoax

A man has appeared in court charged with a bomb hoax outside the US embassy in London.

The Metropolitan Police were called to reports of a suspicious package at the site in Nine Elms, south London, on Friday 22 November.

Officers cordoned off the area while a controlled explosion was carried out.

Daniel Parmenter was arrested two days later, on Sunday, after a search of his home address.

The 43-year-old, of Kildare Terrace, Bayswater, west London, appeared at the Old Bailey on Friday by video link from HMP Wormwood Scrubs.

His legal team at the court held legal discussions.
