The most important task for Republicans this year is reelecting former president Donald Trump. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) could help by launching a run against Sen. Tim Kaine (D). Mr. Trump would gladly support Mr. Youngkin’s effort, which would also elevate Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears as the first Black female governor in our country

If Mr. Youngkin ran, he would turn an uneventful General Assembly session into one drawing national attention. Mr. Youngkin could make deals with House of Delegates Speaker Don Scott and do something for the least among us — young men in prison and their children at home without fathers.
President Biden is up only a few percentage points over Mr. Trump in Virginia. Polling before the 2020 election had Mr. Biden up by double digits. Mr. Youngkin’s popularity was at 57 percent last year.
If Mr. Youngkin leads the effort to flip Virginia’s Senate seats Republican, he would have a realistic shot at the White House in four years.
Mr. Youngkin still needs to prove himself. Republicans won only one of three contested congressional races in 2022. He could not win the General Assembly last year. Without him running for Senate, nothing happening in this year’s General Assembly session will likely help him much.
