A spokesperson said: "Anyone within the vicinity should get to high ground if possible, unless unable to leave their residence.

"Anyone requiring life-saving intervention or trapped in their residence should use 999 to contact Fire and Rescue Service or the Coastguard.

"Please avoid the area to allow rescue operations to continue safely and effectively."

The Met Office has issued three yellow wind and rain warnings for today.

A wind warning will be in force along the south coast from Dorset to Kent until 9am.

Strong winds of up to 65mph will likely bring "hazardous coastal conditions" before they push inland.

Another yellow wind warning will cover the west coast between south Wales and Blackpool until 3pm.

And a third yellow rain warning is in place for southern, central and eastern Scotland until 6pm.

Up to 60mm of rain could flood homes, businesses, transport routes and power lines throughout the warning zone.

Flood expert Harry Walton said: "A combination of spring tides and strong winds is generating storm surge and large waves.

"Minor coastal flooding impacts are probable for parts of England on Monday and Tuesday.

"Environment Agency teams are out on the ground, taking action to reduce the impact of flooding and support those communities affected.

"We urge people to stay safe on the coast, take extreme care on coastal paths and promenades.

"We advise people not to drive through flood water as just 30cm of flowing water is enough to move your car."

Another yellow rain warning will cover western Scotland from 9am until 6pm tomorrow, sparking road and train delays.
