Esthetician Kristin Gunn is the founder of Beaux Medspa in Austin, Texas.

She shared several useful beauty tips with The U.S. Sun, including products she recommends purchasing and staying away from.

ANTI-AGING ADVICE

Gunn's best tip for younger-looking skin is to always apply moisturizer before applying makeup.

"When you are hydrated, you are less likely to crease and have visible wrinkles! Don’t forget your neck," she said.

She also shared some of the "old tried and true tips" that most of us know, like never sleeping in your cosmetics, drinking tons of water, and keeping up with your B vitamins.

If you’re in a pinch and have nothing on hand after cleansing, she recommended aloe vera for healing and pampering tired skin.

Also, she claimed exfoliation as a necessary part of anyone's regimen if they're over 30 because their natural processes begin to slow down.

She suggested the Skin Renewal AHA/BHA cleanser, from her brand Halcyon, which "melts away the dead skin cells that build up allowing for the next step of product absorption."

PRODUCT POWER

Gunn admitted that she is not a huge fan of drugstore products due to the chemicals in many of them, and the lack of active ingredients.

"Products that are going to work well are not going to be super cheap, but you also don’t have to go for the $200 moisturizers," she said.

Good products don’t have to break the bank, but she added that "medical-grade products will yield the best results."

One of the top brands she recommended was Elta MD, which has a full skincare line sold online and in many medical spas.

I’m 47 & always get asked about my youthful skin – a $10 anti-aging buy burns a bit but I love it, I use it twice a week

Gunn first suggested finding a good cleanser for daily use and personally likes the EltaMD Foaming Cleanser, which she said will last several months.

According to the expert, it is safe for all skin types, will balance your pH, and not strip the skin, so you won’t feel a "waxy residue" sometimes associated with other cleansers.

"Elta also has great moisturizers now and they are very conscious of using good ingredients," she said.

Gunn called the EltaMD Skin Recovery Light Moisturizer, "a cool drink of water for your skin."

"This non-greasy formula feels weightless when you apply it, and gives you a nice plump, hydrated finish," she added.

Another great product Gunn said to consider is La Roche Posay Hyaluronic B5 Pure Serum, which is good for anyone's skin texture, especially during the changing seasons.

"It’s hydrating, plumping and will make your skin healthier overall," she said.

SKIN SITUATION

Gunn described her skin as "sensitive, combination, and mature."

To take care of it, she uses a Papaya Cleanser from Revision Skincare, morning and night, to feel clean without a "dry, tight feeling."

Gunn follows that every evening with the Halcyon Skin Care Retinol.

"It works in combination with an ingredient called Backuchiol, which helps eliminate the skin sensitivity that can come with retinol," she explained.

Her night moisturizer and last step is Halcyon Skincare Lipid Restore Night Cream, which she compared to the Skinceuticals Triple Lipid "without the super high price tag."

"It doesn’t break me out and increases hydration by 20%," she added.
