However years before joining the Beeb, the news anchor himself made global headlines.

The then cub reporter, during a stint at STV, couldn't contain his laughter as he read a side-splitting story about a naked pensioner.

He told viewers: "The main headlines in Dundee this morning, a nude pensioner terrorised guests and staff at a luxury resort hotel by brandishing scissors during a drunken rampage."

And following the bizarre local news tale, Nick hit an uncontrollable fit of the giggles.

His employer joined the action and joked: "With local news stories like this, sometimes it's hard to keep a straight face."

Thankfully station chiefs saw the funny side and laughed off the on-screen blooper.

The red-faced reporter joked: "Luckily the bosses were fine about it.

"I think everyone just appreciated the humour in the story.

"It's been a crazy few days. The actual news bulletin went out on the Friday previously but it came to more and more people's attention last week as it was shared online."

Following his time reading the North of Scotland bulletins, Nick moved to rival broadcaster BBC Scotland.
