Earlier this week she accidentally poisoned Joseph and rushed him to hospital.

Social services launched an investigation over Gemma’s actions.

Chesney was questioned at the hospital over Gemma’s behaviour over the last few months.

In the end he had to bring the woman from child protection with him back to the house - ruining the festive mood of Paul Foreman’s final Christmas with his mum Bernie.

The investigator questioned Gemma over her own behaviour towards Joseph.

“It does occasionally happen that parents who don’t feel their children are being given as much care and attention find themselves pressured into actions that are dangerous, however well-intentioned,” she said.

“That’s mad that is,” said Gemma.

And she was taken aback when the woman told her that she had to be investigated - and that involved her not being alone with the children.

She told Gemma and Chesney: “I think it would be best if Gemma vacated the house for a short time, just until I have finished my investigation.

“It won’t be for long and I can see you have a supportive family around you.

“And any time you spend with your children has to be supervised. There has to be an agreed adult with you at all times.

“Until this investigation is concluded it’s important. I need you to agree to abide by these conditions or I will have to recommend that your children are taken into care until I’ve finished my report.”

Gemma was devastated by the news and Coronation Street fans took to social media to share their reactions.

One wrote: "I actually feel sorry for Gemma you know."

A second said: "Never take your kids to the hospital folks."

Another added: "Poor Gemma she's doing her best."
