Hong Kong man, 47, charged after customs officers seize HK$2.2 million worth of cannabis and crack cocaine

The man was arrested after customs mounted an operation in the Yuen Long area on Saturday night.

Officers seized about 20g of suspected cannabis buds in another Yuen Long flat rented by the man.

He was charged with three counts of trafficking in a dangerous drug and is expected to appear at Tuen Mun Court on Monday.

The maximum penalty for trafficking in a dangerous drug is a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.

Customs officers arrested two men who arrived at the airport from Canada on suspicion of smuggling cannabis buds worth HK$18 million into the city on March 10.

It was the largest marijuana trafficking case by a passenger detected at the airport in a decade.
