We’ve chatted to Wales experts and Sun readers who have been on £9.50 Holidays in Wales, to get their recommendations of the best places to eat and drink near some of our £9.50 holiday parks.

Here’s what they said…

Best cafe with a view

June Williams, 74, from Knighton in Radnorshire, Wales, stayed at Parkdean Resorts Ty Mawr.

On one rainy day during her holiday, she headed half an hour along the coast to the seaside resort of Llandudno.

She said: “It was a lovely drive. When we arrived, it was blowing like heck on the beach, so we sheltered inside West Shore Beach Cafe, which was lovely and welcoming and had amazing views to Anglesey and Puffin Island.

We had fish and chips (£12.95) but the fish chowder is also meant to be delicious.”

Best place to take kids

Steph Powell, a parent blogger from south Wales, recommends Verdi’s in Mumbles, Swansea.

As well as Italian coffee and pizzas made using a secret family recipe, they serve Italian ice creams (gelato), ranging from single scoops (£3.10) to sundaes (£9.45 for a knickerbocker glory).

Steph said: “Mumbles is a great day out for all ages. It has a coastal path, perfect for a stroll, scoot or cycle along the seafront. Let the little ones stop for a play in the playground, or sit and enjoy an ice cream at Verdi’s, before heading down to the pier.”

Best place for ice cream

For those holidaying in North Wales, you can’t beat an ice cream from The Looking Glass Ice Cream Parlour in Llandudno.

All made on site using local ingredients, the flavours vary from salted caramel to vegan banana oreo.

Tip: Along with waffle cones and other sweet treats, they sell “take home tubs” so you can enjoy the ice cream back at your caravan (£12 each).

Best cheap eat

June Williams says: “We love Chinese takeaways, and there are lots of options on the main road from Rhyl to Abergele (near Parkdean Resorts Ty Mawr), like Ocean City.

We ordered beef in a black bean sauce (£7.20) and chicken chow mein (£6.90).”

You could also opt for a set menu, from £10.50 for two courses, and the restaurant can deliver to your caravan.

Best local pubs

Ian Peabody, 67, from Newark, Notts, recommends The Railway Inn, which is just a ten-minute stroll from Parkdean Resorts Brynowen.

He said: “It’s very welcoming and feels like a local pub. There’s also the Victoria Inn, which is popular with a lot of people going there to eat. It’s dog friendly and backs onto Borth Beach.”

Chantelle Hawkins, Guest Experience Manager at Trecco Bay, says that if you’re heading offsite, you should make a beeline for the Jolly Sailor, which is just around the corner from the park.

She said: “It’s the oldest pub in Porthcawl. It’s good value, and they have a nice beer garden if it’s sunny.

They do a fun quiz night on Fridays and have great Sunday lunches (tip: book in advance).”

Best fish and chips

A hotly contested accolade, but according to Chantelle Hawkins, the best chippy near Trecco Bay is Beale’s.

She said: “They sell the best fish and chips. It’s a family business that’s been around for over 80 years. It’s a little bit expensive, but so good.”

A Beale’s cod and chips costs £10.50 takeaway, or £12.95 to dine in. Kids’ cod bites cost £6.20.

Meanwhile, in North Wales, there are chippies galore, like The Town Fryer in Rhyl.

This one offers great value for money, with a large cod and chips costing just £5.75 (or £4.50 for a small). They also have a kids’ menu, with a children’s cod and chips costing £2.95.

Tip: this one’s cash only, so remember your wallet.
