Plane crashes near busy Scots airport as emergency crews scramble to scene
EMERGENCY services have been scrambled after a plane crashed near a Scots airport.
The light aircraft went down in a field near Glasgow Prestwick Airport earlier this afternoon.
Police, fire and an air ambulance are all on the scene.
Two people were onboard the aircraft when it crashed.
Details of the condition of those on board are yet unknown.
Flight radar shows the plane circling the area before going down near a field close to the A77 Prestwick Bypass.
The roads around the scene of the crash have been closed down as emergency crews deal with the incident.
The A719 is currently closed at the B739, Monkton.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.10pm on Tuesday, 23 April, 24 we received a report that a small aircraft with two people onboard had crashed in Monkton.
“Police and Ambulance are in attendance.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.05pm on April 23 to reports of a crash involving a small aircraft near Monkton, Prestwick.
“Control mobilised two appliances and heavy rescue equipment to the scene where crews remain in attendance.”
