Food fans racing to bargain Scottish bakery that’s ‘better than Greggs’ – the sausage rolls are cheaper too

FOOD fans are racing to a Scottish bakery chain that's been hailed as "better than Greggs" - and its sausage rolls are cheaper too.

There are 65 Bayne's bakeries across central Scotland including a flagship store in Lochore, Fife.

The family-run chain says they believe in using "traditional baking methods and processes, focusing on product freshness and quality of ingredients".

And with tasty savouries, cakes, doughnuts, and hot and cold filled rolls, foodies have noticed the bakery is very similar to fast-food giant Greggs.

Twin brothers Kevin and Kieran D’Arcy, from Glasgow, visited the Bayne's branch at Hillington Retail Park in Paisley this week.

Speaking in a TikTok video (@thedarcytwins), they said: "We finally tried Bayne’s. If you don’t know what it is, it’s basically like a Greggs but for the east coast."

Checking out the range of food on offer, they added: "Like Greggs, they do a lot of sandwiches, a lot of pastries and a lot of cakes.

"But they do a few other things like this bean and potato pie.

"I love all the wee granny cakes they’ve got going on.

"I don’t know what it is about them, they just hit different."

And after putting some of the food to the taste test, the siblings insisted the steak bake was “amazing” while the sweet and spicy chicken bake was hailed as “even better than Greggs”.

Not only does the food taste good, but the prices are appetising too.

I work for Greggs - the frozen favourite from Iceland that’s the EXACT same as we serve in store

The steak bake in Bayne's costs £2.35 compared to £2.40 in Greggs, while a sausage roll is also 40p cheaper, priced at £1.05.

The Darcy twins' clip has racked up more than 33,000 views with social media users full of love for Bayne's.

"Greggs isn’t even close to Bayne's", insisted one.

A second wrote: "Much, much, much better than Greggs."

A third echoed: "'It's like Greggs', how dare you! Bayne's is FAR better."

A fourth chimed in: "I’m obsessed with Bayne's"

And a fifth added: "Miles better than Greggs."

But if you're a Greggs die-hard, a bakery employee has revealed that an Iceland favourite is "literally the exact same" as they serve in store.

The comment came about when one man shared a video slamming the Greggs range in the frozen food store.

Defending the sausage rolls, a staff member said: "As someone who works at Greggs it’s literally the exact same, come out of a freezer and goes into an oven."
