When one viewer took to social media with a clip of Coronation Street, ranting that they don't watch it anymore because it's gotten so bad, he chimed in.

The actor hit out at the show bosses, saying: "I haven't seen it since I left in 1998.

"They have never asked me back. I wonder why?"

After the tweet called out the production team, Matthew didn't receive the support from fans he had been looking for.

Viewers were quick to flock to the comments and tell him their theories on why he hadn't been hired again.

One person suggested: "That awful song you did about 'hearts' and 'desire' I reckon."

Another harsher critic exclaimed: "Terrible actor! I did see you in Black Hawk Down but that's it! Never seen you since!"

A third replied: "Cause you were s***e?"

Matthew hit back, writing: "Your missus didn't think so."

But people were unimpressed by his clapback, with one even responding: "About as good at comedy as you are at acting."
