My 4-ingredient DIY laundry detergent is skin-friendly and cheap – fans say they’ll never buy it from the store again
A BUSY mom of five has shared her skin-friendly DIY laundry detergent.
This four-ingredient concoction was cheap too.
Some fans were so convinced they said they would never buy it from a store again.
Jenn Darling (@crunchydarlingemplover) revealed her laundry hack on Instagram.
Seeking an alternative to store-bought detergents, she has found a more natural alternative for her never-ending pile of laundry,
Her ingredients included borax, a white mineral used as a cleaning product for centuries.
WHAT IS BORAX?
Its alternative name is sodium tetraborate. According to experts at Healthline.com, borax has many uses in household chores, not just laundry.
- It helps get rid of stains, mold, and mildew around the house
- It can kill insects such as ants
- It’s used in laundry detergents and household cleansers to help whiten and get rid of dirt
- It can neutralize odors and soften hard water
She also offered viewers some borax-free alternatives to her laundry detergent recipe.

For an alternative to shop-bought laundry detergents, try this DIY solution.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups washing soda
- 2 cups baking soda
- 2 cups, of borax
- 1 grated bar of Castile Soap or other natural choices
- 1/2 cup white vinegar: Laundry detergent has a very alkaline pH, which can irritate skin. Using vinegar rinse resets the pH to a skin-friendly level and helps dissolve excess detergent and salts from clothes

- Use warm or hot water
- If using cold, add some hot water to mix prior to using to help dissolve the crystals
"I have only used baking soda for decades and also use it as toothpaste," said another.
"I use both of these recipes. I will never buy detergent again," wrote a convert.
"I love borax, and have been using it for 45 years," added another.
"I have been meaning to try a homemade detergent. Thanks for the recipes," said a grateful fan.
