Vanessa Feltz, 62, was filling in for Storm Huntley, 37, on the commercial network.

She took to her social media as a pre-recorded programme was put on the airwaves in its place.

"Oh for goodness sake a fire alarm," she explained on her Instagram story.

"Nobody knows if it's real or pretend, but we think it's real because there's an actual fire engine and the building has been evacuated."

She added: "So I don't know what's going on with the show."

The Jeremy Vine Show is usually fronted by Jeremy, 59, himself from 9:15am until 11:30am on Channel 5.

Storm takes over for her hour and 15-minute long slot when the presenter makes his way to BBC Broadcasting House to present on Radio 2.

The pair are joined by a string of special guests as they debate and discuss the topical and pressing issues of the day.

However, the show has undergone a presenter shake-up, and TV legend and Jeremy's former BBC radio colleague Vanessa stepped in.

The This Morning personality said she was "thoroughly looking forward" to fronting the programme.

However, her stint was cut dramatically short when a fire alarm rang out through the ITN building on Gray's Inn Road, where the show is filmed.

All the staff seemed to be evacuated as fire engines rushed to the Central London broadcasting centre.
