Delta plane left mangled after colliding with another aircraft on Atlanta International Airport runway in shock accident
A DELTA flight was left disfigured after it collided with another plane during a terrifying takeoff.
The Delta Airlines flight collided with another plane during a 10 am Tuesday takeoff from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
As it was taxiing for departure, the plane, which was headed to Tokyo, struck the tail of Endeavor Air Flight 5526, the FAA confirmed to The U.S. Sun.
The Endeavor Bombardier CRJ900 was headed to Lafayette, Louisiana.
No injuries have been reported.
"The FAA will investigate the incident, which occurred at the intersection of two taxiways" the agency said.
Delta Airlines told The U.S. Sun that customers will be transported back to the terminal and put on a different flight.
“At approximately 10:07 a.m., the wing of an Airbus A350 taxiing out as DL295 from Atlanta to Tokyo-Haneda made contact with the tail of an Endeavor Air CRJ-900, DL5526 to LaFayette, Louisiana, on an adjacent taxiway, resulting in damage to the tail of the regional jet and the wing of the A350," the company detailed.
"There have been no reported injuries at this time and customers are being transported back to the terminal where they will be reaccommodated on alternate flights.
"There were 221 customers on DL295 and 56 customers on DL5526. At this time, no additional operational adjustments are expected.
Delta is cooperating with the NTSB and other authorities on this incident.”
Photos and videos from the collision show the wing of the Delta flight falling off.
Passengers aboard the planes already began posting on X elaborating on the experience and how they're doing.
"Well that was terrifying," Jason Adams, meteorologist at ABC affiliate WFTS. posted on X.
"Taxiing out for the flight from Atlanta to Louisiana and another plane appears to have clipped the back of our plane. Very jarring, metal scraping sounds then loud bangs.
"We’re fine. No fire or smoke. Awaiting @Delta instructions," he concluded.
Before posting about the collision, Adams told his followers he was off to Louisiana to help cover Hurricane Francine.
"Off to Louisiana to help our sister station cover #Francine. Hoping the storm stays on the weaker side for our friends there," he wrote.
