Rashford will be hurting
Marcus Rashford will be hurting, but he can have no complaints.
His omission from Gareth Southgate’s 30-man provisional Euros squad has been a long time coming with his Manchester United form plummeting week on week.
And this term has seen England boss Southgate – a loyal selector of the United forward during his darkest moments – make one of the toughest calls of his tenure to date.
Rashford, 26, has scored just eight goals in all competitions for Erik ten Hag’s side this campaign – his joint-second worst return in his entire career.
He had a decent impact at the Qatar World Cup last November, scoring twice, and netted most recently in a 3-1 home win over Italy in Euros qualifying last October.
But they were just fleeting moments in what has been dismal period for the Red Devil. Hopefully this is the catalyst that will prompt him to turn his career around.

Sancho EXCLUSIVE
The winger will not be handed a cut-price dream ticket back to Germany.
And even if Borussia Dortmund do meet Manchester United’s asking price, he will have to take a hefty cut on his £275,000-a-week wages.
The Red Devils winger, 24, wants a permanent return to Dortmund after a sparkling loan spell for the Champions League finalists.
United are happy to listen to offers but will not let the 23-cap England man go for less than 75 per cent of the £73million they paid Dortmund for him in 2021.
Sancho, who became a global star in his first four years at the Bundesliga giants, was exiled at Old Trafford in September after falling out with boss Erik ten Hag.
He went to Dortmund in January but his United deal runs to 2026 and there is talk of reconciliation.

Villa could be close to landing Utd target
Aston Villa are in advanced talks to make Ross Barkley their first summer signing.
The 30-year-old Luton Town midfielder is set for a surprise return to Villa Park, four years after he scored three goals in 24 appearances for Dean Smith's team during an injury-blighted loan deal from Chelsea.
However, Unai Emery has been impressed by the 33-times-capped England international's outstanding form this season on his return to the Premier League.
SunSport understands Villa's President of Football Operations Monchi has a 'strong interest,' in signing Barkley, who has also interested Manchester United, for a nominal fee of around £2million.
Although Barkley could not prevent the Hatters from dropping back into the Championship, he has excelled since joining them on a free from Ligue 1 side Nice last summer.
The former Everton and Chelsea star scored five goals and assisted with four more in 32 appearances for Rob Edwards' side - sparking speculation he might be close to an England recall.
Villa need to trade wisely this summer as they struggle to comply with tough Profit and Sustainability Rules.
And the addition of Barkley would be one of the shrewdest bargain-priced moves they could pull-off as they look to strengthen the depth of their squad for next season's Champions' League campaign.
Emery admitted the club will need to "be intelligent," in their transfer dealings this summer, after they ran up a loss of £119million in their last accounts - a Uefa record for the season.

After qualifying for the Champions League, Villa are reportedly in "advanced talks" over recruiting the 30-year-old ex-Chelsea midfielder.
